Before you can deposit real money, every regulated broker is legally required to verify who you are. This process is called KYC, short for "Know Your Customer," and it exists to prevent fraud and money laundering — and, importantly, to protect your own funds.
Verification usually asks for two things: proof of identity, such as a passport, national ID card, or driver's license, and proof of address, such as a recent utility bill or bank statement, usually dated within the last three months. Most brokers let you complete this by simply taking a photo of each document and uploading it through their app or website, and approval often takes anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of days.
You can typically explore a demo account, and sometimes even sign up, before verification is required — but you won't be able to deposit or withdraw real money until it's complete. It's worth doing this step early, so you're not stuck waiting once you're actually ready to fund your account.
For deposits, common methods include bank transfer, debit or credit card, and e-wallets like Skrill or Neteller — some brokers also accept crypto. Card and e-wallet deposits are usually available in your account almost instantly; bank transfers can take a day or two.
For withdrawals, reputable brokers will return funds to the same method and account you originally deposited from, up to the amount you deposited — this is a standard anti-fraud rule, not something specific to one broker. Any profit beyond that is usually paid out according to the broker's own policy. A trustworthy broker processes withdrawal requests within a day or two.
This is also a good moment to remember the broker-choosing checklist from earlier in this module: if a broker delays, blocks, or makes excuses around a withdrawal request, that's one of the clearest warning signs that something is wrong.
